Now that many of you have likely heard about this threat whether it was from us several days ago or another weather source, we will skip the overall setup and get into the details.

Storm cells will form Early Sunday Afternoon in the Somerset-Johnstown-Du-Bois region. Strong storms with a few rapidly strengthening severe thunderstorms will be likely within 50 miles of the stated locations.

As cells move east into the State College-Huntingdon-Bedford region during the mid-afternoon, they will have better conditions to work with. As a result, in the mentioned areas, severe thunderstorms will scattered. However, not all locations will see severe storms.

Late Sunday Afternoon into the Early Evening is the period of highest risk. We expect severe storms to be reaching the Chambersburg-Harrisburg-York-Lancaster area during this time. Unfortunately, we predict the severe thunderstorms will be more widespread in nature across this populated region. Damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a few tornadoes are expected in this area as supercells move from west-to-east through the valley.

By Mid-Evening Sunday, severe storms will move into the Reading-Allentown-Philadelphia region. The storms will likely have lost some intensity compared to when they were in the Lower Susquehanna Valley, but will still be relatively widespread in nature. Damaging winds will be the highest threat here.

A threat that applies to all areas is flash flooding. There is the possibility of storm cells “training” over the same areas, which could cause flash flooding due to the already saturated ground. Also, we do not use the SPC’s scale because we feel that one key cannot be used nationwide. For example, those in the Great Plains are much more accustomed to severe thunderstorms than we are here in PA yet the SPC uses the same scale for both areas. We are not here to hype, we are here to warn our followers of the possibilities.
