It has been hot lately with highs in the upper 80s, and it doesn’t take long to sweat after heading outdoors. The Holiday Weekend heat will continue, but then next week we could be looking at a strong cold front that could cool things down.

COOLER TIMES AHEAD

The first arrival of the cooler air looks like Tuesday night into Wednesday. The GFS temperature anomaly map below shows cooler temperatures moving into the western Carolinas.

COLDER THURSDAY

Thursday morning will be even colder! Well, not as hot for the month of May. This could be in the form of rain, where a “Carolina Wedge” takes shape across the western Piedmont and keeps temps in the 60s. Temperatures in Charlotte will be some 10 to 12 degrees F below average. So we might not get out of the 70s, or even lower.

COOL STREAK HEADS INTO FRIDAY

And for the most amazing part, Friday will be the third day in a row of below normal temperatures. I will admit, it’s not so pleasant if it will be a cold rain all next week, which it could be.

With below normal patterns in May, it usually comes at a price with cold rain and clouds. But at least the chance of getting heat stroke is lower.

SATURDAY CONTINUED BELOW NORMAL

Can we believe our eyes? Yes, the below normal streak looks to last into next weekend. Below normal temps on the GFS are shown in the below image for next Saturday morning!

WILL COOLER TEMPS COME FROM RAIN AND CLOUDS?

The good new is, is that it does not look like the rain will be the main cause of the cooler temps! So we may get to enjoy either clouds (ugh) or sunshine, but with below normal temperatures! Below is the rain forecast heading into our first day of cooler temps, next Wednesday, and it looks dry.

Also, as we head into Thursday and Friday, it looks dry as well, so any rain is unlikely to cause the cooler temps. It could just be drier and cooler air overall!

We can say with confidence that there will be no heatwaves to end the month of May and begin June! Comment on our FB post if you will welcome below normal temps to start the new month of June!
