Moderately accumulating snowfall in October is relatively rare here in Pennsylvania. However, the current pattern is favorable for wintry weather. A low pressure system will travel just north of Pennsylvania Wednesday Evening into Thursday Afternoon. It will run into cold air across Northern Pennsylvania, with temperatures in the upper 20s during the onset of the event. Temperatures will slowly rise Wednesday Night as snow continues to push east, before warm air finally floods in Thursday Morning.
This will be a very elevation-based event. Areas above 1500′ will see the most snowfall. The majority of snow will fall Thursday Morning. Below is an in-depth area-by-area forecast.
AREA-BY-AREA MAP FORECAST
Area A – Snow will begin Early Thursday Morning (12am – 3am) from west to east with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. Snow will continue through Late Thursday Morning before changing over to rain between 10am – 1pm. Snowfall accumulation between 2-4″ is possible.
Area B – Snow will begin Early Thursday Morning between 10pm – 1am in western areas and 12am – 3am in eastern areas with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. Snow will continue through Mid Thursday Morning before changing over to rain by 5am – 8am in western areas and 10am – 1pm in eastern areas. Snowfall accumulation between 1-2″ is possible.
Area C – Snow will begin Late Wednesday Evening between 8pm – 11pm in western areas and 1am – 4am (Thurs) in eastern areas with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. Snow will continue through Mid Thursday Morning before changing over to rain in western areas between 3am – 6am in western areas and 7am – 10am in eastern areas. Snowfall accumulation between C-1″ is possible.
Impacts such as slushy roadways are possible in Areas B and A Thursday Morning.
