A nuisance snow event is likely late Friday evening into Saturday morning across PA. It’s January now so unfortunately we have moved on from festive flakes to nuisance snow. This snow will be the leftovers of storm that will dump widespread half-foot totals in the Lower Mississippi Valley through Tennessee, giving them more than they can handle!

Light, fluffy snow will accumulate on all surfaces with temperatures deep into the 20s. But it comes down to not having much precipitation to work with, especially east of the Alleghenies. Below average temperatures will continue for at least another 10 days, meaning any snow that falls will melt very slowly.

Winter Weather Timing

Light snow will move into Western PA after dinnertime Friday, meaning the afternoon rush hour will be unaffected. Light snow will then work its way east into the Allegheny Mountains and North Central PA mountains.

As the snow pushes east, the Alleghenies will suck some of the moisture out of the system as usual, likely resulting in just scattered snow showers east of the mountains. This will be most pronounced in the southeast quarter of PA, where totals will be the lowest.

The snow will be wrapped up by the time most of us wake up on Saturday. Instead of the shovel, the old push broom is probably a more efficient method for clearing this snow.

Below are timing charts for various areas of Pennsylvania. If you’re near a city or region named below, then that timing block is for you as well!

FIRST CALL SNOWFALL FORECAST FOR FRI PM – SAT AM

Area A: Snowfall accumulation of 2 – 4″ expected. Snow-covered roads will cause hazardous travel conditions.

Area B: Snowfall accumulation of 1 – 2″ anticipated. Snow-covered/coated roads will cause slippery travel conditions.

Area C: Snowfall accumulation of less than 1″ expected. Roads that become coated in snow will be slippery.

We don’t expect a roller coaster ride on the models in the coming days. This is a high confidence forecast.

Don’t forget to share this forecast with friends and family who may have plans Saturday morning.
