A surface high settled over the region today and will provide optimal radiational cooling conditions tonight, with many locations enjoying their first frost of the season! Meanwhile, a spectacular aurora is currently underway, so get outside and look at the northern sky! And later this weekend through next week, comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS will become visible near the western horizon for a short while after sunset, and also promises to be a good spectacle. Enjoy!
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is too close to the sun to be seen tonight, but here is an image of taken by NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory satellite (which has the sun blocked out):
FRIDAY
After a frosty start in many locations, bright sunshine will quickly warm temperatures well into the 60s during the afternoon.
SATURDAY
Ample sunshine will once again help boost temperatures, resulting in a spectacular October day to venture outside and gawk at the foliage.
SUNDAY
Unfortunately the stretch of spectacular October weather will be thwarted by a storm system moving toward out area from the Great Lakes, which could spread showers across our area, especially in the northern counties.
