The bad hair day “meter” has been on high, and that is about to change. We could have a really nice weekend ahead with lower dewpoints than usual, making it feel a bit cooler for this time of year.
Below are projected early Saturday morning dewpoints centered on Charlotte.
DRIER AIR FILTERS IN FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
Low dewpoints will start the day Friday, and Friday night will feel nice especially if heading out. Rain chances look to be low if not zero.
What this means is a temporary relief from the Southern humidity. The drier air will filter into much of NC and SC and will make it all the way to the beaches.
WILL LOWER DEWPOINTS LAST?
It looks like our pleasant airmass on Saturday will only be transient, meaning it will move out as typical humid June air takes back over. But there are signs of continued airmasses with lower humidity next week.
Below are projected dewpoints for Thursday morning next week, so it looks like we will get another shot at a less humid and nice day, and low rain chances. It will feel nice once again, but we will have to get through some humid days before then.
It looks like after Thursday next week, the typical summertime humidity will start to build, and could be here for the rest of the summer, as usual.
TEMPERATURES
It doesn’t look too bad as far as any heatwaves into next week, as we forecasted. Below are the highs for Sunday, and we should stay close to these values into the 15th. The mid 90s readings could be a bit too aggressive by the GFS model below.
Thursday next week could not only have lower dewpoints, but also cooler than usual high temperatures for June! Transient cool shots along with transient humid days will be the story into mid-month.
The takeaway message is that it could be a lot hotter than it is for this time of year, but it’s not. The West Coast will have a heat dome, while the East Coast will be in an upper trough pattern. On average anyway.
Showers and storms will increase on the more humid days, and especially the warmer days between now and the 15th.
There will be some great pool days between now and then, as long as there is no lightning or thunder while outdoors. Make sure to take precautions and drink plenty of water, even if highs are only in the 80s!
