Sunday’s system provided heavy rain, gusty wind, and temperatures that obliterated the snowpack.   As it departed today, windy conditions circulated cooler air, but temperatures remained well above normal.

Another system will move through our area New Years Eve into New Years Day which will usher in an extended period of below-normal temperatures for our region

NEW YEARS EVE

Most of the area will start the day with sunshine.   Clouds will spread across the region from southwest to northeast, with showers overtaking our area shortly after sunset.  There could even be some heavy downpours with thunder between sunset and midnight!  Temperatures will remain steady in the 40s overnight.  Enjoy!

NEW YEARS DAY

As Tuesday’s system departs, wind gusts 30-40 mph will drive cold air into our area, pushing temperatures downward through the 30s during the afternoon.  Morning rain showers will change to snow showers during the afternoon.  Accumulating snow is not expected except for perhaps a coating to an inch in the highest elevations.

THURSDAY

Windy conditions will continue, with gusts of 30-40 mph from the west.  Most of the area will be partly cloudy and dry, although some snow showers will blow across the northern counties.   And this setup will herald an extended stretch of below-normal temperatures and several opportunities for snow for the 2nd week of January…
