As the latest short range guidance flows in, the STORM PREDICTION CENTER has UPGRADED much of the state in their respected categorical risks.

Here’s their latest:

In their discussion they state that damaging winds and hail will be the primary threat, with the potential of rotating storms.

These storms that do rotate and become what we call a “super-cell” have the potential of producing a tornado or two.

Area A – This region is now under a SLIGHT RISK for Severe Weather. This area has the potential of having a storm produce damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado.

Area B – Now placed under a MARGINAL RISK for Severe Weather. This region has the same potential impacts as Area A, however the risk is a little lower. The storms should develop over this region and get stronger as they head Eastward, hence why Eastern PA is under the slight risk.

Area C – All storm activity should remain below Severe criteria.

Timing: Storms will start to fire around Noon and last through this Evening.

Josh has been passionate about weather as long as his memory dates! From watching the Weather Channel at age 7, to making hand-drawn hurricane maps at age 11, starting his first weather site at 13, and founding PWA at 15 and forecasting for the state for the past 9 years, Josh's interest in weather has never dwindled! As difficult as it is, he greatly enjoys forecasting for Pennsylvania due to its countless microclimates. The state is an East Coast severe weather hotspot and nearly always home to the rain/snow line during winter storms!
