Yesterday’s cold front heralded a refreshing Canadian surface high.  That surface high will dominate out weather this week, providing spectacular sunshine and crisp autumnal nights.   An approaching system will provide potentially heavy rain this weekend.

As the surface high settles over our region tonight, today’s gusty wind will subside.  By Tuesday morning, temperatures will fall into the low-mid 40s in most locations.  There might even be and isolated pocket that sneaks under 40!

TUESDAY

Tuesday will be a spectacular day with low humidity, light wind, and blazing sunshine.  Enjoy!  Clear skies and light wind Tuesday night will allow temperatures to cool quickly after sunset, with widespread low-mid 40s by the pre-dawn hours (and perhaps an isolated pocked sneaking below 40).

WEDNESDAY

The surface high will remain sprawled across the region.  After a crisp autumnal morning, ample sunshine will boost temperatures into the 70s, along with brilliant sunshine and light wind.

An area of low pressure in the northern Gulf will crawl northward into Louisiana Wednesday , dragging copious tropical moisture with it. Meanwhile, a cold front will be in the process of pushing southeastward through the northern Plains.    These entities will play a role in our weekend weather…

THURSDAY

That cold front will continue pushing eastward, nearing Chicago and Lake Michigan by sunset.  The surface low and its copious moisture will continue crawling northward into the southern Appalachians.

Our area will remain under the influence of that sprawling surface high for another spectacular day.   Thus, we will get to enjoy another crisp autumnal morning followed by light wind, blazing sunshine, and widespread highs in the 70s!

BEYOND THURSDAY (Friday-Sunday Sept 6-8)

The formerly Canadian surface high will slide to our east by Friday.  This will result in a milder overnight and an increasingly cloudy daytime Friday.    Overnight lows Thursday night into Friday morning in the 50s.

The cold front pushing through the Great Lakes will draw the moisture and humidity from that former gulf low northward into our area Friday night through Saturday night.  This increase in humidity will result in warmer overnights with lows near 60 Friday night and Saturday night.   High temperatures will reach into the low-mid 70s.  There will be ample opportunity for showers and potentially heavy rain late Friday night through Saturday night.   Conditions should begin to clear later on Sunday.
