A pesky upper-level low remains nearly stationary east of Maine.  Daytime heating managed to pop isolated showers and thunderstorms into the upper-level low’s cool upper-level air much of this week.  Today was no exception, as illustrated by this afternoon’s visible satellite loop:

Hurricane Ernesto is located about 500 miles SSW of Bermuda as of 4pm Thursday, sporting 85 mph winds.   He is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours to 125 mph winds as he approaches Bermuda.  Meanwhile, the aforementioned upper-level low will slowly relinquish control as another system approaches from the west to provide unsettled conditions for this weekend.

FRIDAY

Temperatures and humidity will increase Friday, and it will feel uncomfortably like the Dog Days of Summer.   Clouds will encroach upon the area from the west during the afternoon, with some showers possible late in the day in our northwestern counties.

SATURDAY

Saturday will feature breezy conditions with widespread showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy downpours possible.  South wind will gust 15-20 mph.

SUNDAY

Sunday will bring a continuation of the showers and thunderstorms.  The unsettled weather will continue into Monday, with total rainfall amounts between today and Monday generally in the 1-2″ range, with locally higher amounts.

BEYOND SUNDAY (Mon-Fri Aug 19-23):

The humidity with showers and thunderstorms will persist into Monday.  Meanwhile Hurricane Ernesto will be grazing eastern Newfoundland on Monday.  After this weekend’s system finally exits our area Monday night, Tuesday through Friday look refreshingly like September, with low humidity an below-normal temperatures.  Enjoy!
