Last night multiple lines of storms rolled across the region, with the first round last evening being the most intense with wind damage reported. Then another line tried to move through early this morning but weakened.

Today will remain unsettled for the most part, especially where the sun comes out. Rain for some today then scattered storms later today with tornadoes East if it gets hot enough.

TORNADOES POSSIBLE TODAY

The threat of tornadoes in eastern NC and SE VA has our attention today. There is the chance for some spin-ups starting at 1pm today and after. This will be anywhere the sun is out and has had a chance to warm things up.

Below is the significant tornado parameter modeled for 1pm today.

This could also increase for other locations later such as Jacksonville, NC and SE NC along the coast.

TODAY’S RAIN THREAT

Totals on the HRRR are shown below as an estimate. The rain chances are higher in the western Carolinas and central SC as well as eastern NC along the coast.

FUTURE RADAR

Below is the future estimated radar for 12 pm today:

Below is the future radar for 6pm this evening:

Note the future radar below for 11pm-midnight tonight along the SC coast including Charleston. It doesn’t take much for Charleston to flood, so be proactive in moving your car to higher ground.

As far as rain and storms go, that wraps up a weekend of Remembrance and Sacrifice, so we take a moment of silence to remember the Fallen.

MEMORIAL DAY HIGHS

Clouds will play a big role in keeping temperatures lower inland, while closer to the coast the sun will be out and it will be hot. Widespread low 90s are expected across the eastern Carolinas.

PLEASANT REST OF MAY INTO JUNE

We don’t have much of May left after today, and our temperatures are still set to be below average for this time of year! Highs will only top out in the low 80s for the rest of this week, and might not get any higher into next Saturday! And we are expecting mainly DRY!
