A sprawling upper-level ridge currently dominates much of the Plains and the East, resulting in widespread much-above-normal temperatures.   This week will feature another round of autumn heat for Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures soaring well into the 70s once again.  Please refrain from outdoor burning, as the extremely dry conditions are resulting in elevated fire danger.  Parts of our area could finish the month with under a tenth of an inch total, making October 2024 one of the driest months on record!

TUESDAY

A disturbance will slide along the northern edge of that upper-level ridge on Tuesday, delivering showers to northern New England.  Clouds and light showers could move across parts of our area Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night as that disturbance drags a warm front through our area.  Most locations will remain dry, and those that get a tease of rain will likely barely get the ground wet.  A few isolated lucky spots could get a tenth of an inch.

WEDNESDAY

Behind that warm front, southwest wind will deliver another round of very warm weather to our area.  Temperatures Wednesday morning will start in the 40s, with most locations climbing to over 70 degrees with ample sunshine.  These temperatures are over 20 degrees above normal for this time of year!  The gusty wind and extremely dry conditions will also make for a high fire hazard.     Enjoy!

HALLOWEEN THURSDAY

Temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday morning will fail to fall below 50 in some of the warm locations!  Thursday will be a very warm day with temperatures climbing a few degrees higher than Wednesday, along with ample sunshine.  Some locations could flirt with record highs!   Breezy conditions and the extremely dry conditions will once again result in a high fire hazard.

A cold front will approach our area from the northwest Thursday night into Friday.  This front will deliver another opportunity for showers late Thursday night into early Friday morning.  Unfortunately, amounts will be light, ranging from a quarter inch in our northern counties to less than a tenth of an inch in our southern counties.

BEYOND THURSDAY  (Friday-Sunday November 1-3)

Thursday night’s cold front will bring cooler weather for Friday through Sunday.  Temperatures will remain a few degrees above normal, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s on Friday, and mid-upper 50s during the weekend.   Remember to turn clocks back 1 hour at 2am Sunday!
