This week’s weather has been more-reminiscent of late winter than Spring.  Temperatures across our area fell to 20 F Wednesday morning! A deep upper-level trough is dominating the weather over the Plains and the East.   Moisture streaming northward along the eastern side of that trough is currently spreading a cold rain into our area.

Temperatures in most places will fall into the upper 30s tonight.  However, the highest elevations will cool into the low-mid 30s, which will allow that cold rain to mix with and possibly change to snow in those areas, where a slushy accumulation will be possible.

That upper-level trough is quite evident in today’s water-vapor satellite loop.   Near the base of that trough, over western Kentucky/Illinois/Indiana, you can see the next system that will impact our area Friday into Saturday.

FRIDAY

Rain and snow will change to a cold rain across all of the area during the morning hours.  There could be a slushy coating in the morning across the highest elevations.    As the next system (currently over Kentucky) swings through Virginia and then northward up the coast Friday night, it will draw colder air southward into our eastern counties and potentially change the rain back into snow for the higher elevations of the Poconos through Pike and Wayne counties Saturday night.  Some accumulation will be possible in those areas although temperatures will again be marginal, so only the highest elevations will likely get accumulating snow.

SATURDAY

As the coastal low moves northward off the New England coast. chilly rain will continue, mixed with snow in the higher elevations. Again, there could be some accumulations Friday night into Saturday morning in the higher elevations, especially in our eastern counties. Enjoy!

SUNDAY

The upper-level trough will slowly slide eastward and relinquish control of our weather.  There could be some leftover rain and snow showers in the morning, but a weak ridge of high pressure will bring clearing conditions and milder weather for the afternoon.
