After the state was just slammed by a massive winter storm earlier this week, you would think maybe Mother Nature would give us a break. Unfortunately that won’t be the case for some of us. A quick-hitting coastal storm will produce moderate to heavy snow over a short period of time on Sunday morning. The very limited duration of this storm will keep snowfall totals down.
FUTURE RADAR TIMING
Snow will push in from the southwest early Sunday morning. By 4:00 AM, the eastern two-thirds of Pennsylvania will be seeing moderate snow. Snowfall rates of about 1/2 inch to an inch per hour are expected in the few hours following onset. Below is Hi-Res NAM future radar for 4:00 AM Sunday.
Mid-morning Sunday is when we expect the snow to really be falling heavily across southeast PA. Snowfall rates of 1-2″ per hour will be possible in heavier snow bands in SEPA between 6 AM through 9 AM Sunday. So despite temperatures being marginal, around 32 degrees, this snow will still accumulate on roadways. Here is future radar for 8:00 AM Sunday.
By noon Sunday, most of us will be done with the snow as it pushes off to the northeast. Below is future radar for 12:00 PM Sunday.
