After temperatures over the weekend soared to near 80 degrees in Southern PA, a strong cold front accompanied by gusty winds came through today. Temperatures will drop into the 30s the next several nights, prompting the first Frost Advisories of the season to be issued in portions of the state, as seen below.
The cold mornings are expected to be on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A widespread freeze is likely Thursday morning, ending the growing season in most of Pennsylvania.
Wednesday morning will be a few degrees warmer, but a plant-killing freeze is still anticipated in the rural, sheltered valleys that many farms are situated in across the state.
WEDNESDAY FROST/FREEZE FORECAST MAP
Area A: Morning low temperatures between 28-32 degrees expected, leading to the end of the growing season in most of the valleys across Pennsylvania.
Area B: Morning low temperatures between 32-36 degrees anticipated, likely resulting in frost on vegetation.
The map will look very similar Thursday and Friday morning as well, if not slightly colder.
FIRST SNOW FORECAST FOR TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY
Area A: Scattered lake effect snow showers are possible Tuesday morning, as well as Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. No accumulation is expected aside from the highest elevations of the PA Wilds, where a trace of snow is possible.
As for the rest of us, we will have to wait a little longer for our opportunity!
