As a clipper raced by to our north yesterday, snow squalls and windy conditions prevailed. Despite the squalls in the northern mountains, our southern counties managed to climb to 50 degrees! Wind gusts exceeded 50 mph across the higher Terrain on Wednesday, resulting in scattered power outages. After a seasonal weekend the first week of February looks to average warmer than normal.
FRIDAY
A storm system will spread light freezing rain into our area during the predawn hours Friday which could accrete a light glaze of ice. Temperatures will creep above freezing by lunchtime, with a soaking rain during the afternoon. Around a half inch to an inch of rain is expected. As the system departs to our east, rain will subside after sunset and end as a period of light snow around midnight. There could be a coating across our northern counties.
SATURDAY
High pressure will move over our area Saturday to provide sunshine and seasonal temperatures.
SUNDAY
A warm front will push northward toward our area to provide increasing clouds, and perhaps patchy light snow during the aft4ernoon This will herald a mild first week of February. Despite the looming warmth, Punxsutawney Phil will likely see his shadow at sunrise!
