The forecast for this weekend into early next week has changed quite a bit even this week, as a few days ago it looked like the whole period was going to be wet, but now the forecast has improved. Here’s a day by day forecast breakdown.
Friday 6/30
One last day of unhealthy air quality, as a northwest flow will finally clear the smoke and haze from west to east throughout the day. Highs around normal, in the 80s. Dry, except for a few pop up showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and early evening that will miss most areas.
Saturday 7/1
Showers and thunderstorms in Northwest PA, isolated thunderstorms elsewhere. Besides a brief half hour period of rain, Saturday is expected to be dry. There’s a good chance of no rain in the eastern half of Pennsylvania. Partly to mostly sunny in Central and Eastern PA, mostly cloudy in Western PA. AQI (air quality index) between 50-99 expected.
Sunday 7/2
Partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the southern half of PA.
Area A: A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible late Sunday afternoon into the early evening. Wind damage and large hail are the main risks, but an isolated tornado is possible.
Area B: Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms possible early Sunday afternoon in Western PA, then late Sunday afternoon into the evening in the eastern half of PA. Main risks include wind damage and large hail.
Area C: Showers and isolated thunderstorms possible, some of which may be strong. Wind gusts up to 40mph and small hail possible.
Monday 7/3
Partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening. Highs in the mid 70s to upper 80s.
Tuesday 7/4
Mostly sunny skies with highs in the 80s.
As you may have learned in the past month, air quality is difficult to predict even a few days out. So it’s not a guarantee Monday & Tuesday will have clean air.
