A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Cambria and Somerset counties on Tuesday from 5 AM to 12 PM for periods of snow and freezing rain resulting in slippery road conditions. A High Wind Warning will be in effect for the higher elevations in Fayette, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties on Tuesday from 1 AM to 7 PM where winds are expected to range from 25 to 35 mph and gusts as high as 60 mph, resulting in downed trees and powerlines. A Wind Advisory will be in effect for Armstrong County on Tuesday from 1 AM to 7 PM where winds are expected to range from 20 to 30 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph, blowing around unsecured objects and blowing down tree limbs.
Tuesday
The passage of a strong low-pressure system is expected to bring high winds, mixed precipitation and the possibility of widespread power outages throughout the region on Tuesday. Periods of snow and freezing rain may occur throughout the region in the morning hours before transitioning completely to rain after mid-day. Rain can be heavy at times. Highs will be in the Low 50s to Mid 40s. Windy conditions can be expected throughout the day. Sustained wind speeds ranging from 16 to 24 mph with higher elevations ranging 25 to 35 mph. Lows will be in the mid to low 30s.
Potential peak wind gusts could approach or exceed 60 mph in the higher elevations.
Total precipitation throughout the region will range between just over an inch to some area approaching one- and three-quarter inches.
Wednesday
Periods of rain and snow are expected to continue on Wednesday. Areas to the north, and higher elevations to the east, will have a better chance at experiencing more snow than rain. Highs will be in the high to mid 30s. Windy conditions are expected to continue with winds speeds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, and regionwide gusts as high as 40 mph, higher elevations could experience gusts approaching 50 mph. Lows will be in the low 30s to mid 20s.
Thursday
A slight chance for rain and snow showers in the morning hours will eventually transition to mostly sunny conditions. Highs will be in the low 40s to high 30s. Breezy conditions are expected to continue with wind speeds ranging from 10 to 20 mph, gusting between 35 to 45 mph throughout the region. Lows will range in the 20s.
