FINAL Call Snowfall Forecast for Friday’s Snowstorm in Pennsylvania
Frigid cold has taken hold of the area, and it truly looks and feels like winter around the state with a snow-covered ground and wind chills on either side of 0 this evening. We are watching another round of light to moderate snow for Friday, which like earlier this week, will be very powdery. Temperatures will be well below freezing as the snow falls, meaning the broom will be about as useful as a shovel when clearing your driveway.
This system is a bit more complex, especially in Eastern PA where there will be a feed from the Atlantic Ocean that will bullseye a specific area, which will be difficult to nail down even hours beforehand. Out in Western PA, it’s more clear cut. Light snow will fall for a long duration, starting even as early as Thursday evening in parts of Western and Northern PA. That will push east, and be followed by snow squalls in Western PA Friday afternoon.
In Central PA, light to moderate snow is expected for a time Friday morning, with snow squalls mainly north of the PA Turnpike Friday afternoon. And in Eastern PA, light snow will push in Friday morning before enhanced snowfall rates are expected in Southeast PA Friday afternoon and early evening. Timing is still up in the air, but here is your first look at our timing charts.
FIRST CALL TIMING CHARTS
Timing is subject to change, and we will have a better idea by Thursday’s forecast.
FIRST CALL SNOWFALL FORECAST FOR FRIDAY 1/19
Area A: Snowfall accumulation of 4 – 6″ expected. More uncertainty remains with the Southeast PA portion of this area. Snow-covered roads expected Friday, with cancellations likely outside of the snow belts of NWPA.
Area B: Snowfall accumulation of 2 – 4″ expected. Snow-covered, slippery roads are expected Friday very shortly after the snow begins to fall, likely resulting in cancellations.
Area C: Snowfall accumulation of 1 – 2″ expected. Snow-covered roads possible Friday, potentially resulting in cancellations.
There is a little more uncertainty with this forecast than normal, so be sure to return Thursday for our Final Call.
